Friday, May 31 — Mayor Virg Bernero invites you to strap on your walking shoes with him Saturday to take part in the 17th annual River Walk in Lansing.
Starting at 9 a.m., the mayor will lead an expected 1,000 participants from Potter Park Zoo to the Turner Dodge House in Old Town, a 3.5-mile hike through the city on the River Trail.
“The River Walk is a fun and healthy activity for the entire family,” Bernero said in a statement. “It’s also a great opportunity to enjoy the truly scenic areas along the Grand and Red Cedar Rivers from the Zoo to Old Town.”
Registration is at 8:30 a.m. at Potter Park Zoo, where there will be free parking. Don’t worry about getting back there, either, as a free shuttle will transport walkers back to the zoo from the Turner Dodge House.
The event precedes this year’s Be a Tourist in Your Own Town, which starts at 10 a.m. and features a variety of cultural landmarks in the city. See here for more on that.
