Mini Lansing indie film festival ‘Livestream Your Quarantine’ airs Friday

THURSDAY, April 9 — Threadbare Mitten Festival director Dan Kofoed isn’t letting the coronavirus rob Lansing of locally produced independent films. While Threadbare Mitten Festival isn’t scheduled until September, Kofoed has put together a free livestream mini-festival to break up the dullness of self-isolation. Airing Friday at 8 p.m. on twitch.tv/threadbarefilmfest, “Livestream Your Quarantine” will feature several short films, organized by the categories “Isolation” and “Viral,” and a live intermission performed by noise rock musician Corey Kellicut.

Kofoed wants to help make up for the severe loss independent filmmakers have experienced thanks to the wave of festival cancellations.

“Most of my friends are filmmakers or artists of one sort or another. They’re all hit really hard right now,” Kofoed said. “The whole film community is basically at a standstill. The whole film festival circuit is just stopped. Myself and a lot of my close friends had films accepted by Capital City Film Festival, which was supposed to be kicking off this week.”

Kofoed said “Livestream Your Quarantine” will broadcast films from previous Threadbare Mitten Festivals with themes relevant to the current global situation surrounding the coronavirus.

“I was thinking of films from the previous years that are about people being isolated at home, or movies about zombies and things like that. Various end of the world kind of stuff — some of them are comedies and romances,” Kofoed said.

The streaming platform Twitch allows viewers to chat with each other. Viewers don’t have to pay any sort of free and can create a guest account if they do not wish to register with Twitch.
