Join Lansing’s first socially distanced running group

MONDAY, Aug. 17 — The COVID-19 outbreak forced everyone to stay inside for months, all cooped up with nothing better to do than watch Netflix or learn to bake bread. It got hard to find a reason to go outside, especially because it suddenly became unsafe to be within six feet of another person.

The group Mid-Michigan Running Meetup — a club designed to help the people of Lansing make friends and get fit at the same time — found a way for people to safely gather and get some fresh air and exercise. Every Tuesday, they are holding a “Socially Responsible Distancing Run” beginning in the parking lot of the Lansing Public Media Center. The route takes the runners to Scott Woods, which sits at the north end of Hawk Island County Park. It is approximately a mile and a half long and runs mainly through peaceful residential neighborhoods. Runners are encouraged to stop whenever they want to and to run at their own pace.

After the runs, Mid-Michigan Running Meetup will host a grill out. They will provide every hungry runner with hot dogs, buns and condiments. Runners can bring their own beverages and a dish to pass if they so please. There will also be a bonfire and a kiddie pool. Kids and dogs are welcome to join in on the fun.

Socially Responsible Distancing Run

Every Tuesday, 6:30 to 9:30 p.m.
