Grocery store appears headed to downtown Lansing

MONDAY, Aug. 27 — Look for an announcement Wednesday of a downtown Lansing supermarket.

Details are hush hush, but developer Pat Gillespie has called a press conference on the block where it would go presumably to announce the plans.

The media event is at 2 p.m., Wednesday, at 600 E. Michigan Ave., the west end of the block where the market would go, followed at 3 p.m. by a “celebration.”

“Mayor Andy Schor, Gillespie Group leadership, development partners, community leaders, media, business leaders and area residents” will attend, a press release says.

City Pulse reported in April that Gillespie was negotiating for a grocery store, a longtime but elusive goal for downtown.
