From the archive: Anti-Sharia Law protest five years ago included Proud Boys members

FRIDAY, June 10 — A congressional committee spent Thursday night laying out a carefully documented argument that groups like the Three Percenters Militia and the Proud Boys worked together in a conspiracy of sedition -- legal charges members and of both  groups face in federal court.

So it was coincidence that today marks the fifth anniversary of a  large-scale protest and counter protest at the intersection of the I-96 exit at Pennsylvania Avenue. In reviewing archive images from that day, City Pulse identified a member of the Three Percenters militia and two members of the Proud Boys . The archives also include images of William Null, a member of the Michigan Liberty Militia, who faces charges for a plot to kidnap Gov. Gretchen Whitmer.

The Three Percenters Militia  is a more radical sub-group of the general militia movement, according to the Southern Poverty Law Center. Specifically, the group alleges only 3% of American colonists participated in the American Revolution. The group claims is stands ready to battle any "tyranny" in America.

The Anti-Defamation League calls the Proud Boys organization an extremist group whose members are "primarily misogynistic, Islamophobic, transphobic and anti-immigration. Some members espouse white supremacist and antisemitic ideologies and/or engage with white supremacist groups."
