Dolehanty resigns as Ingham County controller

MONDAY, Jan. 27 — Ingham County’s top executive has resigned from the job.

The Ingham County Board of Commissioners plans to search for a new chief fiscal and administrative officer later this month after County Controller Tim Dolehanty abruptly resigned following seven years on the job late last week. Commission Chairman Bryan Crenshaw said his departure came without much explanation on Friday evening.

“He expressed his interest in resigning and we agreed,” Crenshaw told City Pulse. “He basically just sent us a memo saying that he wishes to resign. There wasn’t really any notice given. Now we’ll just be working to get him replaced.”

Dolehanty was hired for the job in 2013 after previously serving in various top-level administrative posts in Isabella, Chippewa and Wexford counties. His responsibilities included directing “central administrative functions,” balancing the county budget and acting as a liaison between the Board of Commissioners, department heads and the public.

Crenshaw said commissioners will meet tomorrow night to discuss the situation, noting early plans call for an interim county controller to be named sometime this week while a search is launched to find a more permanent replacement.

Dolehanty couldn’t immediately be reached for comment on his recently announced departure.
