CADL tests curbside pickup at Okemos and Aurelius branches

Posted

TUESDAY, May 28 — With a call at least 30 minutes before arrival, library patrons will soon be able to sit in the comfort of their carwhile Capital Area District Libraries' staffers deliver materials to their curbside pickup parking spot free of charge starting June 3.

A CADL press release said this will help eliminate barriers to using a library as well as give people viable options when short on time, with a child in a car seat or with mobility issues.

“We are looking at ways to increase the overall experience of our members and remove some of the barriers to using the library,” CADL marketing director Trenton Smiley said.
“It is important to offer another service to keep us engaged with the community.”

Not everything can be curbside delivered, including Library of Things items, Launchpad tablets and American Girl dolls.
To use this service, a library card and driver’s license is required to present to staff making the delivery.
The test will expand to the downtown Lansing CADL branch sometime this summer.

“For the most part, we want to run this as a test to really see the type of response coming in and utilizing the service. We are going to start here in July when there is going to be some major road construction near the library to provide another option for our members.”
Smiley said CADL got the idea from other libraries with curbside service in St. Louis, Cincinnati and Lexington.
Here is how to order curbside at each library according to the press release:
