This weekend, ScrapFest returns for its 13th year, a new art event debuts in downtown Mason, Lansing Wine Fest entertains thirsty guests at Jackson Field, Potter Park Zoo and Harris Nature Center host events for animal lovers and much more.

 For Friday evening’s live music, we have Matthew Shannon at Harrison Roadhouse and Taylor Taylor at East Lansing’s Ann Street Plaza, both at 6; DownRiver Dan at Lansing Brewing Co. and Sea Cruisers at Lake Lansing Park South, both at 7; Ajah Montalvo at the Peanut Barrel and Lucid Vibe at Lansing Shuffle, both at 8; and A Night at the Soul Lounge at The Avenue at 9. Saturday evening, we have Aces High at Williamston Roadhouse and Grupo Viento at UrbanBeat, both at 7; Taylor Taylor at Lansing Shuffle at 8; and Narc Out the Reds, Brother Wolf, Ladyship Warship and Mad Moon at The Avenue at 9. Ending the weekend on Sunday is Lydia Jackson at Lansing Shuffle at noon and Red Cedar Spirits’ weekly Sunday Jazz show with Michelle Lordi, Matthew Parrish and Randy Napoleon at 6 p.m.

ScrapFest, an eco-art festival focusing on upcycled and repurposed artwork, runs 5 to 9 p.m. Friday and 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. Saturday on Turner Street in Old Town, featuring scrap-metal sculpture displays, a silent auction to purchase the sculptures, eco-art vendors, family activities, live music and food from Picnic Food Truck, plus a Refashion Show 7 p.m. Friday and an 8K run/walk 8 a.m. Saturday.

Another art event, Mason Ink: A Block Party, runs noon to 4 p.m. Saturday on Jefferson Street in downtown Mason. A group of Mason-area artists known as the Lino Ladies have designed large carvings that will be inked up, placed onto frames and run over by a multi-ton asphalt roller to imprint the images onto paper and cloth. Once dry, the images will be displayed inside Bestsellers Books and Coffee Co. The designs will also be available for purchase on notecards, and for $5, attendees can have one of the images printed on a T-shirt they bring.  

For even more art, view “Blind Spot” and “Shouldn’t You Be Working? 100 Years of Working from Home” at the Michigan State University Broad Art Museum, which is open 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Friday through Sunday, or “Let the Paintings Talk” at the Okemos Library, which is open 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. Friday, 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. Sunday and noon to 6 p.m. Sunday.

 For theater buffs, Williamston Theatre begins its run of the comedy “Be Here Now” with preview performances 8 p.m. Friday and Saturday and 2 p.m. Sunday.

If you’re in the mood to play some board or card games, Keys to Manifestation is hosting a game night 5 to 8 p.m. Saturday, and Unity Spiritual Center of Lansing is hosting a euchre and gaming event noon to 2 p.m. Sunday.

Enjoy a night of camping at Potter Park Zoo beginning 6:30 p.m. Friday, with a campfire and s’mores, a guided tour of the zoo, outdoor movie screenings and a continental breakfast and free zoo admission the following day.

Additionally, visit Potter Park Zoo 1 to 3 p.m. Sunday for its Just Chillin’ with the Animals event, where guests can view the animals playing with special themed enrichments. Regular admission rates apply.

For even more animal fun, Harris Nature Center is hosting a bat-themed campfire 7 p.m. Saturday. Roast marshmallows and learn about Michigan bats and their adaptations, plus enjoy a guided walk along the nature trails.

The Reading People is having a free book giveaway 10 a.m. to noon Saturday, with a range of genres for all ages. Attendees can take as many books as they’d like from the collection.

The 2nd annual Lansing Wine Fest runs 5 to 8 p.m. Saturday at Jackson Field, featuring live music by Shelby & Jake and Joel Randolph, a variety of food options for purchase and, of course, plenty of wine samples from local and national winemakers. General admission tickets are $40 and include a souvenir wine glass and 10 tasting tickets.

Visit Lansing Brewing Co. 2 to 5 p.m. Sunday for a Family Fun Day, featuring games, obstacle course challenges and plenty of food and drinks.

Finally, for sports fans, Lansing Common Football Club will play West Michigan Bearings Soccer Club 7:30 p.m. Friday and 1927 Soccer Club 4 p.m. Sunday at Eastern Stadium. In addition, Capital Pro Wrestling will host a series of matches at the Fledge beginning 3 p.m. Sunday.
