Ms. Dedria Humphries Barker, and readers. This is a very brilliant and valuable article, getting to the roots of understanding in our area and between cultures in general. I have seen from my experience (Spanish language teaching; literacy work among the very young) that it takes a lot of immersion on the part of a literacy teacher to be effective between codes. Bi-cultural and bilingual should be key words for effective teaching. I love your analysis of the disconnect between Betz and Lynn. I believe that Lynn, however 'imperfect,' will emerge from this controversy with Betz, and continue to serve in highlighting much that is screwed up. He already has, especially in spotlighting what happened to Anthony Hulon (y'all see the facebook interview by him with Heather Hulon?). I love that you are doing an opinion column every month.
