FRIDAY, Oct. 17 — Another satellite office for Lansing City Clerk Chris Swope will open next week as the third full-service location to register to vote and pick up and return absentee ballots.

The Alfreda Schmidt Southside Community Center — located at 5825 Wise Rd. — will open weekdays from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. beginning Monday, Oct. 19 through Monday, Nov. 2. It marks the third location in Lansing to have opened for residents to vote early in the November election.

“The addition of a third Clerk’s Office for this election will make early voting more accessible and safer for the Lansing’s electorate,” Swop said in a press release sent today. “Voters gain the convenience of selecting the location and the time they would like to complete their ballot, obtain a new ballot if they make a mistake, and register to vote. They can do it all in one visit.”

Additional election offices are open at City Hall, 124 W. Michigan Ave., and at the South Washington Election Unit, 2500 S. Washington Ave. Both are open weekdays from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. The Washington Avenue location is also open extra late on Wednesdays until 7 p.m.

Extended weekend hours have also been scheduled there on Saturdays from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. and from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. on Oct. 31 and Nov. 1. To comply with state law, offices will also stop issuing absentee ballots the day before the election at 4 p.m. on Nov. 2. Each of them will still remain open from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m. for voters to register before casting in-person ballots.
