TUESDAY, Dec. 8 — A local church plans to hand out more than $20,000 in gift cards this weekend.

LMTS Community Outreach Services — beginning at 1 p.m. on Sunday, Dec. 13, — plans to distribute 1,000 $20 gift cards at the Tabernacle of David Church, 2645 W. Holmes Rd. Anyone under the age of 18 can pick one up. At least 100 gas gift cards for $100 will also be available for the first 100 adults to arrive at the church on Sunday.

“We realize that 2020 has been an unprecedented year for many families who lost loved ones, income, homes and even a sense of hope. This small gesture on our behalf is to bring sunshine to what has been a depressing year many,” according to a press release sent out this week.

LMTS bills itself as a nonprofit agency “purposed to serve the community, support families and rejuvenate hope” in Lansing. Gift cards will only be distributed on a first-come, first-served basis while supplies last. All those under 18 planning to receive a card must be present in the car. Only one gas gift card will be given to each vehicle.

Volunteers will be wearing masks and practicing social distancing during the drive-thru event.

“We simply want to add some holiday cheer,” LMTS Director Joshua Gillespie said in a press release announcing the charitable event. “We are honored to serve the Lansing community and we hope through this effort that we can ease some burdens and generate a smile or two.”
