Strange Matter declares ‘win’ over Gillespie Co.

Judge dismisses lawsuit over allegedly unpaid renovations

WEDNESDAY, April 17 — A lawsuit against the popular eastside beanery Strange Matter Coffee Co. has been dismissed and its owner is happy about the outcome.

The Gillespie Co. filed suit against Strange Matter in January, accusing owner Cara Nader of breach of contract for more than $25,000 in allegedly unpaid renovations at Strange Matter's location on  Michigan Avenue. Court records show the case was dismissed yesterday, but not many details are available.

“It’s a win for me and my business, and I’ll just leave it at that,” Nader said today. She previously noted that if she lost, the future of her business could've been in jeopardy.

Gillespie Co. owner Scott Gillespie declined to comment.

The dismissal notice, signed yesterday by 30th Circuit Judge Joyce Draganchuk, ends all claims against Nader, including a demand from Gillespie that Nader pay allegedly contractually obligated expenses. Nader, for her part, had previously  denied the contention that she owed Gillespie any money at all.
