MSU Filmetry Festival livestreams 13 short films inspired by Detroit music

TUESDAY, April 14 — The Michigan State University Filmetry Festival is livestreaming 13 short films adapted from Jim Daniels’ book “RESPECT: The Poetry of Detroit Music.” “RESPECT” is a critically acclaimed anthology that collects poems and lyrics from important figures in Detroit’s legendarily rich music history.

The festival includes films produced by MSU students, faculty and staff, along with several outside filmmakers. You can catch the stream on April 23 at 7 p.m. through this link: go.cal.msu.edu/filmetry.

“Filmmakers are often just looking for a bit of inspiration, and poetry gives the filmmaker a chance to really take some creative risks with the work,” Peter Johnston, MSU Film Studies Professor and Filmetry co-founder, said in a press release. “We were so excited to be able to work with the RESPECT anthology to create this thematic thread throughout the films. While the pandemic outbreak certainly altered our plans for an in-person premiere, this online streaming premiere gives us a chance to reach an even wider audience.”
