Licked joint triggers precautionary recall for Michigan pot shops

THURSDAY, Aug. 6 — A medical pot shop in Lansing was forced to pull some joints from its shelves today after state officials said they could have been contaminated at a facility in Bay City.

Michigan’s Marijuana Regulatory Agency announced a limited product recall today at Jars, a medical dispensary at 7045 S. Cedar St. in Lansing, among several other dispensaries statewide. Officials said an employee at Dispo, a vertically-integrated cannabis retailer and processor in Bay City, could have licked at least one joint before it was shipped off to Lansing.

State officials subsequently issued an order that placed all pre-rolled joints from the Bay City processor on an “administrative hold” during the investigation that prohibited their sale. The company has also since volunteered to cease all processing activities until further notice.

The recall in Greater Lansing is limited to pre-rolled joints of “Strawnana” sold at Jars between July 10 and Aug. 3 and pre-rolled “Kush Mints” joints sold between July 28 and Aug. 1. It’s unclear how many were sold. Calls to the store were not immediately returned.

As the state investigation continues, officials are asking those who bought any contaminated pre-rolls to return them to their local dispensary for a refund or an exchange. Shops must also notify patients and caregivers who purchased any pre-rolls that came from the Dispo facility.

In addition to Lansing, officials said contaminated joints could’ve been sold at retail outlets in Bay City, Hazel Park, Detroit, Traverse City, Ann Arbor, River Rouge, Ferndale, Quincy, Lowell, Negaunee and Lapeer.
