Ixion Theatre goes toe-to-toe with motherhood in ‘Apples in Winter’

WEDNESDAY, Oct. 9 — What makes a good mother? After losing her son to the criminal justice system 22 years ago, Miriam grapples with personal conflictions the only way she knows how: baking.

Saturday, Oct. 26, Ixion Theatre will stage Jennifer Fawcett’s award-winning play “Apples in Winter” about a mother making an apple pie.  The play has won the National New Play Network's Smith Prize and the Susan Glaspell Award. 

Those who enjoyed the book or film adaptation “We Need To Talk About Kevin,"  or Sue Klebold’s TED Talk about being the mother of a Columbine shooter, will enjoy this minimalist portrayal of a parent living through the consequences of their child’s horrific crime.

“Apples in Winter” is directed by Ixion's Artistic Director jeff croff. Starring in this one-woman show is Paige Dunckel, who offstage serves as theatre faculty at Lansing Community College.  Paige performed in Ixion's inaugural show and world premiere “The Four Disgracers”, which was also directed by croff. Paige  directed Ixion's first full-length play “Top Dog/ Underdog” and the world premiere of “Secrets.”
