Midwest's leading all-women's weekend returns for 8th year

Posted

Go Girl! Saugatuck — the premier inclusive women’s weekend in the Midwest — celebrates its eighth year, May 30 – June 1, 2025, exclusively at The Dunes Resort,  America's largest gay resort.  Launched in 2016,  the diverse and intergenerational Sapphic party is going full press in the midst of the current climate for LGBT citizens.

Friday night’s new addition is live rock-n-roll by the American Reggae Fusion band Nikki Holland and the Dirty Elizabeths.  A Ferndale and Saugatuck/Douglas favorite, Holland has shared her stage with pop-rocker Alisabeth Von Presley and her dancers, who are rumored to be making an appearance.  Veteran Pride performer and former Bob Seger backup singer Barbara Payton will drop in for her renowned Zeppelin set —sure to get heads banging and fingers rocking.

Coming up from Miami as Saturday night’s musical headliner is Yoli Mayor, who  is “excited to return to GoGirl to play with all the GoGirlies from last year.”  Added Mayor, an  "American Idol" semi-finalist and full-season regular in Provincetown and Miami, “There were so many women last year, and I didn’t get to half of them!”

She’ll find plenty to salsa to on Friday night with returning Chicago DJ Gloria.  And much to throw down to after the Saturday night variety show with House Music DJ — Chicago Knuckles style — DJ Lori Branch, who really mixed last year’s dance floor into a cocktail of beats and rhythm until the bar closed at 2 a.m.

“The ladies who come to this event are always ready to let loose, and they have a great time,” said Dunes co-owner Mike Jones.

Said Mimi Gonzalez, producer and founder of the event, “Mike Jones really seeded this idea and asked me to take over their women’s weekend.  Since our first year in 2016, it’s felt like that old school feeling of ‘family’ where both the gay boys and the lesbians enjoy and appreciate each other.”

Gonzalez, a queer comic veteran, accepted Jones' invitation to rebrand the Dunes' women’s weekend.  She recognized and commiserated about the dearth of women’s weekends and created Go Girl! Saugatuck determined to celebrate all women and people on the feminine/female/Sapphic spectrum.

“My intention is radical inclusion and this event is a women’s weekend for all women and anyone on the feminine spectrum. Our trans brothers and sisters and gay men are welcome too."
