Civil rights movies play at Cooley Law School Stadium this weekend

MLK Jr. Commission shows ‘42’ film and encore of ‘Good Trouble’

THURSDAY, Aug. 27 — The Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Commission of Mid-Michigan and the East Lansing Public Library have partnered to bring an encore showing of the documentary “John Lewis: Good Trouble” and a showing of the sports film “42” at 7 p.m. on both Friday and Saturday.

Registration is available for up to 100 guests in order to comply with capacity restrictions for outdoor gatherings in Michigan. “Good Trouble,” which chronicles the life and work of Congressman John Lewis, plays on Aug. 28. “42,” which follows professional baseball player Jackie Robinson, plays on Aug. 29. Both begin at 7 p.m. and are followed with firework shows.

“We are excited for the opportunity to show both of these important films and honor one of the most historic marches and speeches in our country’s history,” Elaine Hardy, commission chairwoman and East Lansing diversity, equity and inclusion administrator, y said in a press release.
