“We don’t take guns in the courthouse. We don’t take guns into city hall....”

That statement is only partially correct. By law, one may not take a firearm into a courtroom, and under Michigan’s pre-emption law, which prohibits political divisions from enacting laws/ordinances that contradict/violate state firearms laws, city hall is NOT a so-called “gun free” zone. This fact was frequently an issue with former Grand Rapids mayor George Heartwell, who publicly acknowledged that there was legally nothing he could do to stop lawful forearms carriers from bringing their firearms into public meetings. Mr. Lynn needs to acquaint himself a little better with state firearms law.
