Old Town Poetry Series kicks off with reading by Laura Apol

Posted

WEDNESDAY, Sept. 4 — Laura Apol, Lansing’s newest poet laureate, opens the gates for the 2020 Old Town Poetry Series with a reading on Sept. 15 at the Michigan Institute of Contemporary Ary Gallery

The series has given poets and poetry enthusiasts in mid-Michigan a platform to share their talents since 1988. Apol is an associate professor at Michigan State University’s College of Education.

The reading from Apol will be followed by an open mic segment, featuring local acoustic guitar player Brandon McCoy.

Attendees are invited to share a poem in the open mic session after the featured performers. Those interested in reading can put their names in the basket at the door — where donations will also be accepted.

The Lansing Poet Laureate Project is sponsored by the Lansing Economic Area Partnership (LEAP), the Residential College in the Arts and Humanities (RCAH) Center for Poetry at MSU and the Lansing Poetry Club.
