Formerly a lawyer and a university educator, Rev. Emmanuel Charles McCarthy is the founder and the original director of The Program for the Study and Practice of Non-violent Conflict Resolution at the University of Notre Dame in South Bend, Indiana. He is also co-founder, along with Dorothy Day, Gordon Zahn and others of Pax Christi-USA. For over forty-five years he has directed retreats and spoken throughout the world on the issue of the relationship of faith and violence, and the non-violent Jesus and His Way of non-violent love of friends and enemies. In 1992, he was nominated for the Nobel Peace Prize. Also featuring the Freedom Riders Youth Tour Presentation. Last summer, 34 youth from Michigan and 13 adults took a remarkable two-week civil rights journey through the South as part of Michigan Coalition for Human Rights Freedom Tour 2013. Annual Peace Award Presentations: Young Adult Peacemaker Award presented to University of Detroit Jesuit High School Just Peace.
