Chef Shen will be giving a cooking demonstration on Wednesday, October 14 and then preparing a dinner on Thursday, October 15. The cooking demonstration will consist of a lecture/demonstration of a four-course meal with samplings of each course served to attendees. Two wines are also served to accompany the food. The following evening, guests enjoy a four-course meal, different from the cooking demonstration, prepared by the chef and served with wine pairings. Both events begin at 7 p.m. The demonstration runs approximately two hours, and the dinner runs approximately two to three hours. Hailing from Hong Kong, Chef Jackie Shen is a graduate of the University of Houston, Hilton Hotel School of Hotel and Restaurant Management in Texas. Prior to joining the Red Light Restaurant, Chef Shen had a seven-year stint at Chicago's Lawry's Prime Rib. Before joining Lawry's, Chef Shen owned and operated her own restaurant, the elegant Jackie's in Chicago's Lincoln Park neighborhood. Chef Shen has won numerous awards and honors, including her induction into the Crain's Chicago Business "40 Under 40" and the Nation's Restaurant News Hall of Fame. Chef Shen has also achieved media fame, appearing on the PBS series "Great Chefs of Chicago" and being featured in the Washington Post. Chef Shen is also committed to giving back to the community. Among her charitable endeavors, she organized Chicago's "Taste of the Nation," the largest nationwide restaurant fund to benefit the country's hungry and homeless. Chef Shen puts her passion into each artful Pan-Asian dish at the Red Light Restaurant, which offers seasonal Chinese, French, Thai and other Asian menu items, ingredients and techniques. Tickets for the cooking demonstration are $60 per person and tickets for dinner with the chef are $75 per person.
