A state treasure

Grand Hotel’s resident historian speaks tonight

Thursday, March 21 — The Grand Hotel on Mackinac Island is a National Historic Landmark, overlooking Lake Huron since its construction in 1887. Bob Tagatz, the hotel’s resident historian, will speak at 7 tonight at the Capital Area District Library’s downtown branch. He will guide Lansing listeners through some of the rich oral history of the Michigan treasure.

South African choir group coming to the Wharton

Monday, Feb. 18 — The South African a capella group Ladysmith Black Mambazo just wrapped up a tour of Canadian leg of their North American tour. Member Albert Mazibuko said he hoped that the cold subsides as they head into Michigan for their performance at the Wharton Center on Wednesday.

Anthony Bourdain to appear at sold out meet-and-greet at Red Haven

Tuesday, Jan. 29 — Celebrity chef, public speaker, bestselling author — however you know Anthony Bourdain, a select few Lansing-area residents will get to meet him this spring. Bourdain’s Guts and Glory Tour, a recounting of his experiences in the culinary world, comes to the Wharton Center on May 7. And after the one-night stop in East Lansing, Bourdain will attend a private reception at the new eclectic restaurant Red Haven where 150 VIP ticket holders will get to take pictures with him and get his autograph.
