Friday, Sept. 28 — A new lecture series starting Oct. 10 is getting down and dirty with the subject of graffiti and public art — a timely subject for Lansing-area art enthusiasts.

Thursday, Oct. 18 — There's something to be said about live and local comedy shows that offer live and local laughter — especially if it’s for a good cause. This Friday at The Avenue Café in Lansing, comedian Melik Brown has created just that: a night of comedy to benefit the Women’s Center of Greater Lansing.

Monday, Nov. 26 — The season of competitive giving is upon us: on Tuesday a five-hour food and money collection drive in downtown Lansing will benefit the Greater Lansing Food Bank.

Tuesday, Dec. 4 — There are about 20,000 different types of glitter produced worldwide. Yep — people really love the stuff, especially around the holiday season. So in the spirit of all things bright and sparkly, the Arts Council of Greater Lansing is holding the 33rd annual Holiday Glitter fundraiser tomorrow at the University Club of Michigan State University.

On an average Saturday night, I usually head to a show with some friends or, having recently turned 21, go barhopping. But last weekend I tried something different: a friend and I went to a class at Painting With a Twist, a new instructional painting studio in Frandor Shopping Plaza.
