Wednesday, Oct. 3 — The Lansing Association of Human Rights, an organization advocating for gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender equality, released candidate ratings this week for the 2012 elections.

Thursday, Oct. 4 — Opponents of Proposal 3 say the proposed constitutional amendment mandating 25 percent of the state’s energy come from renewable sources by 2025 lacks a clear roadmap to implementation.

Friday, Oct. 5 — Earlier this week the Lansing School District, along with every other school in the state, had its annual student count day. The preliminary count wasn’t good, as the district tallied 400 less students from last year.

Tuesday, Oct. 9 — Jeffrey Scott Handley Jr., the local artist who admitted to tagging the Capitol Building in September with graffiti, was arrested Monday for nailing his artwork to the halls of the Gannon Building at Lansing Community College.

Wednesday, Oct. 10 — In the opinion of one Michigan State University law professor, the $3 million of public financing that went into the St. Anne Lofts development in downtown East Lansing may constitute a violation of the “establishment clause” of the First Amendment of the U.S. Constitution.

Tuesday, Nov. 13 — In response to Michigan Attorney General Bill Schuette’s attempt to stop their casino project in Lansing, the Sault Ste. Marie Tribe of Chippewa Indians has asked a federal judge to dismiss the case.

Friday, Dec. 14 — For 35 of the past 42 years, the Lansing School District saw a decline in student enrollment. The latest student count data, discussed at length at a board meeting Thursday night, shows a continuing trend.

Tuesday, Jan. 22 — A coalition seeking to protect Michigan wolves has launched a referendum campaign in response to legislation passed in the lame duck session that makes the state’s small wolf population open to hunting.

Tuesday, Jan. 8 — With the help of a hefty $1.5 million grant, Lansing will be able to help thousands of low-income residents get one-on-one financial counseling to tackle their economic woes and help pull them out of poverty.

But today, protesters wanted the first day of the new legislative session to be an embarrassing walk for state representatives who supported right to work last month.
