Wednesday, Oct. 5 — Enjoy some of the Lansing area’s most mouthwatering pies and get your fill of fall activities at the Capital Area Interfaith Respite’s Annual Autumn Pie Fest on Saturday. CAIR is an organization that gives caregivers a chance to take a break, free of charge, by providing senior citizens with companionship.

Wednesday, Oct. 19 — Not long ago, Chadrick O’Maelmona and writing partner Matt Snitgen were discussing future projects and decided to try something new with vampires. “The recent over-saturation of the genre seemed to have split into two categories: extreme romantics, like ‘Twilight’ and also the intense horror like ‘30 Days of Night,’” O’Maelmona said. They felt there was more exploring to do.

Thursday, Oct. 20 — David Meeder believes that the flute is a “heart-centered” instrument: You carve the “heart” out of the instrument, but when you play it you put the heart back into it to create the music. He has been playing music for over 30 years and calls his first album, “Eye of the Storm,” “a labor of love” inspired by vacant buildings in Detroit.

Wednesday, Oct. 26 — The Chinese government established the National Acrobats of the People’s Republic of China in 1950 to preserve an art form that’s existed for about 3,000 years. This year marks the first time the acrobats have toured the United States and Canada; the tour stops at the Wharton Center at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 27.

Thursday, Oct. 27 — A proposed New York City men’s home called New York Dream Center may see some dreams come true, thanks to the Lansing-based band Hyperbole.
