Too little too late, Mr. Rogers

by Readers
Lance Enderle is willing to do the hard work to help Michigan residents get back on their feet. He isn’t afraid to answer tough questions. He’s willing to stand up to special interests (he won’t take money from PACs or lobbyists).I want a real representative in Washington, so I’m voting for Lance on November 2nd.

Bureaucrats scream, money, more and more money, as if it is the cure to every, and all, problems. Money is only a tool and must be used correctly. We do not need the greed of ignorant bureaucrats to continually foul up our country. Laws are for the improvement of society, not to serve greedy.

Absentee landlords abound

by Readers
Note the assessment of $0 ("Eyesore of the Week," 9/1/2010). This is owned by "Gates of Zion", located at 11705 Schavey Rd, Dewitt. Considered a place of worship, it pays no taxes on the properties it owns. Lest you think they purchased this ramshackled property to refurbish, think again.

How bizarre

by Readers
What a bizarre letter ("There goes the neighborhood," by Kevin Webb, 8/25/10). First of all, the Old Forest Association is a residential association, not commercial, whereas Old Town Manor and Rizzi Designs are very active in the OTCA, as expected.

There goes the neighborhood

I generally enjoy your publication and will pick up a copy whenever I see a new edition. However, I’m writing in regard to the recent article in the City Pulse by Neal McNamara entitled "The New Tycoon (8/18/10)". Here’s the first paragraph:

No excuse for speeding I’m outraged, but not for the pc-required reason. Every event descibed ("Driving while black?" 8/11/10) has happened to me at one time or another — except when I get stopped for a traffic violation, I get a ticket. Councilmember status gets Q...

Think before you dream

by Readers
“Single stream dream” (8/4/10) ignored some considerable environmental and economic costs of a commingled recycling system for the City of Lansing. Mixing all recyclable items together into a single stream is easier for users to operate because they don’t separate materials; however, this type of system has drawbacks.

One fine critic

by Readers
I have worked in theatre for many years, the last 16 here in Lansing, and have read many reviews, both good and bad. And each time a bad review is written by a critic there seems to be a public outcry; ’it was too harsh’, ’it was great ignore him/her’, ’they can’t write’, and, to me, the most blasphemous ’it’s only community theatre’.

I also don’t consider myself a member of the “Eastside Living” group you describe as uniquely qualified 60-somethings. I respect and admire the people you identify in this group who put their heads together to get a Community Development Block Grant. However my head has never been in communion with them to develop a plan or get any grants.

Tom Helma has written an especially negative review of Lansing Civic Players’ Skungpoomery. While Helma’s review omits detail and demonstrates an apparent lack of understanding of absurdist theater, it is his opinion, and of course he is entitled to it.
