The shop offers medicines, clones and a limited variety of medibles. Optional memberships are $10, good for discounts on products. I’m told the fees will go toward a local nonprofit organization, although this process was not yet formalized on a recent Sunday.

This small, white building is unmistakable to southbound travelers on Cedar Street with its giant red cross and cannabis leaf painted on the side. Upon entering through a screen door, there were two counters and a small waiting area with magazines and a television.

Upon entering the shop, I was enthusiastically greeted by a jolly man with a genuine love for what he does. He checked my papers and informed me that there was no membership fee. They had eight different strains of medicine and also one kind of nicely packaged and displayed edible peanut butter cups.

The administration won’t recommend a budget to the City Council until next month, so we hit the streets to ask 18 people how they would fix the budget. We broadly asked if they supported tax increases, cuts to services or a combination of the two. The results: Tax increases may not be so bad.
