The Arts Council of Greater Lansing has announced almost $26,000 in grant money will go to 10 local non-profit organizations via the Michigan Council for Arts and Cultural Affairs 2010 Regional Regranting Minigrant Program.
The Arts Council of Greater Lansing oversees funding for arts and culture projects in the four-county area of Ingham, Eaton, Clinton and Shiawasee. The funding must be used for programs taking place between April 1 and Sept. 30, 2010.
The 2010 MCACA Minigrant regional recipients include:
Community Circle Players, Inc.: Awarded $4,000 to present eight public performances of “The Light in the Piazza,” June 3-13, 2010 at Riverwalk Theatre,
Greater Lansing Gay Men's Chorus: Awarded $1,500 to present two 2-hour performances of “You Can’t Stop the Beat,” featuring music from the 1960s at Lansing Community College’s Dart Auditorium June 4 and 5, 2010.
Happendance, Inc.: Awarded $4,000 to present the “Community Dance Project” April 1-Aug. 15, 2010. The project will be a collaboration with
Old Town Business and Art Development Association: Awarded $2,230 to support the Old Town BluesFest, a two-day free music festival Sept. 17-18, 2010. The festival will feature 15-20 blues performances and is expected to draw more than 15,000 attendees for entertainment, demonstrations, and workshops.
NorthWest Lansing Healthy Communities Initiative: Awarded $1,230 to facilitate the creation of a mural at
City of East Lansing Summer Solstice Jazz Festival: Awarded $4,000 to produce the “Summer Solstice Jazz Festival,” two evenings of free jazz music on June 18-19, 2010 in downtown
Advent House Ministries: Awarded $1,230 to coordinate “Art for All,” a community project serving homeless and low-income individuals through 12 weeks of twice weekly art therapy sessions and once weekly open art studio sessions for participants to create works to be exhibited in a group showing during Old Town JazzFest Aug. 6-7, 2010.
Owosso Community Players: Awarded $1,230 to produce a summer performance of Disney’s “High School Musical” providing theatrical opportunities for high school and college students, as well as a live theater experience for residents of rural
Michigan State University, Friends of Theatre at MSU: Awarded $1,480 to support local theatre professionals as guest artists participating in the 50th Anniversary Season of “Summer Circle Theatre” performances. Three free community productions will take place on the MSU campus during summer 2010.
