Augusta Barn won't open its doors this summer

In Section: A&E blog Posted By: JamesSanford

Sad news today out of Augusta: The Kalamazoo Gazette is reporting the Barn Theatre will not be opening this season, citing a downturn in business last year. The theater has an annual budget of approximately $900,000 and was "20 percent down just from breaking even," according to Brendan Ragotzy, who co-owns the Barn with his wife, Penelope Alex Ragotzy.

The Barn, launched by Brendan's parents Jack and Betty Ragotzy in 1946, is Michigan's oldest professional Equity summer-stock theater. Former "Barnies" include Jennifer Garner, Stephen Lynch, Tom Wopat, Marin Mazzie, Kim Zimmer, Dana Delany and "Rent" author Jonathan Larson.

The Barn season typically runs from late May through Labor Day.
