Java N Jazz N help for Haiti

In Section: A&E blog Posted By: JamesSanford
Java N Jazz, located at 300 South Clinton Street in Albion, will be sponsoring a three-week series of events to help raise money for the earthquake victims of Haiti. Each Friday from noon to 10 p.m., the club will hold "Jammin' For Haiti," a sort of extended open-mike night. Musicians are being sought to perform, says Java owner Mercedes Marton. 'They don't have to be jazz," Marton added. "It can be any genre, as long as it's clean. We don't want any gangsta rap." But poetry and spoken-word performers are certainly welcome. "You could bring your favorite book and read out loud," Marton said. "Anything that's entertaining and promotes social interaction with people." "Jammin' for Haiti" begins Jan. 29 and continues Feb. 5 and 12. For more information, call (517) 960-6418 or visit www.javanjazz.com.
