Wharton Center gets ’Blue‘

Blue Man Group rolls into East Lansing this weekend

by Dylan Sowle

Thursday, Feb. 21 — It's not every day that a band of blue-faced men beating drums and playing PVC pipes wanders into your town, but East Lansing will get that opportunity this weekend. The Blue Man Group makes a stop at Michigan State University's Wharton Center for a three-day gig starting Friday. And from what Blue Man member Shane Andries has to say, this incarnation of the popular performance will be memorable.

“The show evolves constantly, with new music being written for the tour, as well as keeping some classic pieces,” Andries said. “It's always been a commentary on the world we live in, so it has to keep evolving in order to keep with the spirit of Blue Man.”

The tour has been running for over a year.'

“For people who haven't seen the show, it will be something bold, fresh and entirely new,” Andries said. “For those who have seen it, it's been revamped. And if you've seen our Vegas show, you'll know that the finale is something to stick around for.”

Andries said that audiences can still count on the group's signature style of crowd participation and wild props. Of course, the surprise of what will happen is the best part, but apparently the Blue Man Group has recently been wrapping the audience in giant sheets of paper, taking the whole “connecting with the audience” concept to a new level.
