Area health departments offer open discussions about recent assessment

by Holly Johnson

Wednesday, June 20 — Health officials in Ingham, Eaton and Clinton counties invite residents to participate in a community dialogue to look at the recently released “Community Health Profile and Health Needs Assessment.” The report examines factors and conditions — such as obesity, smoking, infant mortality rates and access to doctors — that affect the health of residents of the region.

The report was created by Healthy! Capitol Counties, a partnership between three state-charted health departments serving the Eaton, Ingham and Clinton counties and the four area hospital systems. The report is part of the new federal health care reform law that requires a community health assessment to be done every three years, beginning this year.

Over the next four weeks, residents can attend a free session with group representatives to discuss the report’s findings at the following locations:

Dansville: 7 p.m. Tuesday, June 26, 1362 Mason St.
East Lansing: 1 p.m. Thursday, June 28, Hannah Community Center, 819 Abbott Road.
Dewitt: 6 p.m. Tuesday, July 10, St. Francis Retreat Center, 703 E. Main St.
Eaton Rapids: 6 p.m. Thursday, July 12, Eaton Rapids Medical Center, 1500 S. Main St.
St. Johns: 11 a.m. Friday, July 13, Clinton Commons, 1105 S. Scott Road.
Lansing: 7 p.m. Tuesday, July 17, Cooley Temple Conference Center, 217 S. Capitol Ave.
Charlotte: 5:30 p.m. Thursday, July 19, AL!VE, 800 W. Lawrence Ave.
