Be Italian!

Gino Federici puts a dash of Italy in the holidays at tonight's Lansing Community College Jazz Ensemble concert

by Cristina Toscano
Friday, Dec. 9 — If you’re a fan of voices like Dean Martin or Frank Sinatra, turn your ears toward Gino Federici, a musician who adds comedy and theater into his concerts. He performs with Lansing Community College Jazz Ensemble at 8 p.m. tonight.

Born in Genoa and raised in Turin, Italy, Federici has been involved in performing arts for about 40 years and has been working with the jazz group since arriving in Michigan five years ago.  The LCC Jazz Ensemble is an 18-piece jazz band conducted by Jonathon Gewirtz of Lansing Symphony Big Band and LCC’s Faculty Jazz Quartet.

Federici says his music is international in scope, providing him with opportunities to sing and speak Spanish, French, Italian and English. He also performs his own arrangements of familiar songs. His work has appeared on CDs with Placido Domingo, Josh Groban and Il Divo.

In his spare time, Federici can be found in the kitchen: His TV cooking show, “The Italian Singing Gourmet,”  can be seen online at TheItalianSingingGourmet.com.
