Council Night

Discussion of Oliver Towers exchange and FY2013 budget on the agenda for Monday’s Committee of the Whole meeting

by Nyssa Rabinowitz
Friday, Sept. 30 — Not much is scheduled for the regular City Council meeting Monday, but the Committee of the Whole meeting afterward should provide more information.

A discussion of the proposed Oliver Towers exchange between the city of Lansing, the Lansing Housing Commission and Davenport University is on the committee’s agenda as well as continued discussions concerning the fiscal year 2013 budget.

Various Council committees have been working on putting together budget priorities. Those were scheduled to be discussed two weeks ago but were pulled from the agenda because committee reports weren’t completed. City administrators have already predicted that the budget will have a $15 million deficit for the next fiscal year.

The committee will also give an update on the joint meeting that was held with the Lansing Parks Board on Wednesday. The meeting discussed the naturalization of city parks.

The Council’s regular meeting agenda consists of various letters from the city clerk, a letter from the mayor appointing Doug Meeks to an At-Large seat on the Board of Ethics and two letters from the mayor concerning the two P.A. 425 agreements between the city and DeWitt Township, which may affect development around the airport. The letters concerning the P.A. 425 agreements were not available Friday.

The Council is not scheduled to vote or present any resolutions or ordinances during Monday’s regular meeting.
