If you go down to the Michigan 4H Children’s Garden
Saturday, you’re sure of a big surprise — unless, that is, you’re prepared for
the sixth annual Teddy Bear Hospital and Picnic, co-sponsored by the Michigan State University Department of Pediatrics & Human Development and the MSU
Children’s Health Initiative.
Bring your teddy (or the stuffed animal of your choice) to
the 4H Children’s Garden from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. If your toy has any injuries,
MSU pediatricians and medical students are on hand to make repairs. It’s
part of a strategy to help kids deal with worries and concerns about their own medical
check-ups and treatments.
Also participating in the Picnic: the MSU Women’s basketball
team (with head coach Suzy Merchant) and MSU mascot Sparty, as well as the
Spartan Marching Band. Informational booths will provide updates on everything
from audiology and speech pathology to sports medicine, and a picnic lunch will
be served. The 4H Children's Garden is located on the MSU campus.
Tickets are $5 in advance; $7 at the door. Children under 2
are free. For more information, call (517) 355-4726, or visit www.msuchi.org/picnic.htm
