WKAR plans extensive 9/11 coverage

by Nicole LaChance

To commemorate the 10th anniversary of Sept. 11, WKAR
offers special programming airing the week before the anniversary and on
the day itself, on both WKAR radio and TV.

This week, WKAR Radio will air reports focusing on local
residents affected by Sept. 11. These will include interviews with a
Michigan State University psychiatrist and Pakistani Muslim woman who
embraced her heritage after Sept. 11, a resident of Lansing who was
staying at the World Trade Center on Sept. 11 and local people who
enlisted in the military after the event. The programming also includes a
piece on Muslim relations in the area, as well as a visit to Capital
City Airport to see how security has changed.

WKAR-TV airs the one-hour special “Engineering Ground Zero” at 9 p.m. tonight, followed by “Faith and Doubt at Ground Zero.”

On Sunday, WKAR-AM (870) carries National Public Radio’s
live coverage of the anniversary, which includes reports from New York,
the Pentagon and Shanksville, Penn. Neal Conan will host a special
edition of “Talk of the Nation” at 2 p.m. for listeners to call in and
share their thoughts and memories about Sept. 11. The coverage airs from
10 a.m. to 6 p.m.

At 8 p.m. WKAR-TV airs the PBS “News Hour” special,
“America Remembers,” examining the significance of Sept. 11 throughout
the nation.  This is followed by the New York Philharmonic’s “Great Performances: A Concert for New York.”
