Guest chefs visit Kellogg Hotel and Conference Center

by Joe Torok

Tuesday, Aug. 30 — Michigan State University’s Kellogg Hotel and Conference Center
hosts the talents of three culinary experts as a part of its fall semester
visiting chef series that kicks off on Sept. 21 and 22, and continues Oct. 19 and 20 and Nov. 9 and 10.

The two-night events begin with a chef-led
cooking demonstration on Wednesdays, followed by a Thursday evening dinner with the chef.

“This series exposes folks from this community to different
types of cuisines and other ways of dealing with basic staples like beef,
chicken and fish,” says Kellogg Center general manager Joel Heberlein.

The Wednesday evenings are educational in nature. Guests will learn kitchen tips, tricks
and hints and have the opportunity to ask the chefs questions as they prepare a
dish.

“If you’re into cooking and into 'how-to’s, you’ll want to
get to the Wednesday demonstrations,” Heberlein says. “If you have a question, you can interrupt and ask. When tasting, if you don’t understand
flavors, you can ask.”

Chef Robetro Madrid of the Westin Kierland Resort and Spa in
Scottsdale, Ariz., will host the September dates. Chef David Padberg of the Park Kitchen in Portland, Ore.,
visits on Oct. 19 and 20. Chef
Howard Hanna of The Rieger Hotel Grill & Exchange in Kansas City, Miss.,
will be in town on Nov. 9 and 10.
