Auction action

Craig Mitchell Smith works are up for bids at Dow Gardens on Tuesday

by City Pulse Staff

Friday, Aug. 12 — Glass sculptures from Craig Mitchell
Smith’s Dow Gardens show will be up for auction at 7 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 16 at
Dow Gardens, 1809 Eastman Ave. in Midland. Approximately 20 of the 30 pieces
featured in the “Art in the Garden” project are expected to be available.

The Dow exhibit opened in mid-May with 15 pieces, but Smith
continued to add more art over the next two months, with the last sculpture
arriving July 15. An estimated 45,000 visitors have seen the show, according to
Smith.

Smith gave the Dow staff a price list for patrons who might
be interested in taking home some of the glass hollyhocks, wisteria, sunflowers
and fire lilies.

“People can pay that price and buy them now,” Smith said. “But
most people are waiting for the auction. I have pieces from $350 to $10,000.”

Prices include free installation for customers living within
a 50-mile radius of Lansing or Midland.
