There's gold in Frandor!

Well, at least in the Mid Michigan Family Theatre's production of 'Go West!'

by Ashley Brown

Wednesday, Aug. 3 — Whether it's finding gold in the hills of the Old West, or the opportunity to explore
uncharted territory, Mid Michigan Family Theatre's "Go West!" tells the story of what it really
means to chase the American dream, said director Bill  Gordon.

“The tone for the show is very lively and upbeat,” he said. “It’s a
historical musical that talks about how people led their way west with
trains and locomotives — some found gold and some found new
opportunities.”

Actor Spencer Holly, who plays the role of Wagon Master, agrees, adding that the show brings history to life.

“The
play is about everybody moving out to the West to find new riches and
new wealth,” he said. “It's where they can live better and where it’s not so
crowded, and they can be free.”

Katie Clevenger, who plays the roles of the Cow Poke and Pioneer Man, added that "Go West!" is what's known in theater as a "triple-threat," with singing, dancing and dramatics. There are eight musical numbers and three improvisation scenes. But she has enjoyed the challenge.

“It’s been a pretty good experience,” she said. “Instead of being some crazy drama, it’s like a fun adventure.”

The show opens Friday,  Aug. 5 at Mid Michigan Family Theatre, 440 Frandor Ave. Tickets are $6 for adults and students, and $4 for pre-schoolers. For more information, call (517) 339-2145.
