Something Cool for Common Ground — LL Cool J, that is

Verve Pipe, Tonic, Larry McCray among other additions to festival lineup

by City Pulse Staff

LL Cool J has won Grammys, starred in TV's "NCIS: L.A.," written a fitness book and acted in such movies as "Last Holiday," "Deep Blue Sea" and "Charlie's Angels." Now he's got another title to add to his resume: Common Ground Music Festival headliner.

The rapper is one of several new names that were added to the list of Common Ground performers today. He'll perform July 16.

Also booked: '90s rockers Tonic (July 16); blues-funk star Larry McCray (July 17); Southern rock act Blackberry Smoke (July 14); the Verve Pipe (July 12); singer-songwriter David Nail (July 13); veteran Chicago bluesman Duke Tumatoe (July 14); dance-rock star Hot Chelle Rae (July 17); rockers Jonathan Tyler & the Northern Lights (July 12); indie-rockers Locksley (July 17); the island-influenced sounds of Don Middlebrook & Living Soul (July 14); and former Rare Earth lead singer Peter Rivera (July 11).

Previously announced acts include Melissa Etheridge (July 17); Trey Songz (July 11); Rick Springfield (July 12); Burton Cummings (July 12); Charlie Daniels Band (July 13); Theory of a Dead Man (July 15); Black Stone Cherry (July 15); Aaron Lewis (July 13); and Downplay (July 15).

Common Ground tickets are available at Star Tickets outlets, at the Common Ground office (901 N. Washington Ave., Lansing), online at www.commongroundfest.com,  and by calling (800) 585-3737.

A 7-Day Ticket  is available for $79; single day tickets are $29 for July 12, 13, 14, 15 and 17, and $30 for July 11 and July 16.

It is so true about the coupons for products you didn't even know you needed! Thank you annebruce, you obviously read this article and care about its content! On an altogether unrelated subject, Larry McCray is a performer's performer and shouldn't be missed -- as well as being a tireless booster of blues music in Lansing. I have to say most of the other performers announced are lackluster -- catering to an un-adventurous music demographic is hardly a winning strategy -- though anyone would be lucky to see a few of the brighter spots on the roster like veterans LL Cool J, Melissa Etheridge, or Rick Springfield. It is astonishing how little imagination the promoters show, however, when given such a great opportunity to either a) showcase local talent or b) book performers who have something other than nostalgia or bland musical conservatism going for them.

Awesome, Printapon saves me time and money! You can see the coupons instantly and don't have to search for ones.
