Badgero’s new role

Founder of Peppermint Creek Theatre is now on staff at the Arts Council

by James Sanford
Chad Badgero is a man in love — with his new job. "This is
like my mission," he says. "My mission in life is to promote and
interact with the arts, and that’s exactly what I’m doing in this new
position."

Badgero, 34, took on the newly created role of marketing
and communications coordinator at the Arts Council of Greater Lansing
earlier this month.

The timing was perfect, Badgero said: His assignment as
communications and volunteer coordinator at Old Town Commercial
Association through a two-year grant from AmeriCorps had just concluded.

"So much of the experience I gained (at AmeriCorps), so much of what I learned there is so vital at the Arts Council," he said.

Arts Council executive director Leslie Donaldson sees the same potential.

"With Chad’s experience working through the Old Town
Commercial Association, as well as his involvement in the community —
and especially his background in the arts and his enthusiasm for
Lansing, he’s a great addition to our staff, and we’re thrilled to have
him."

Badgero said the job offers him a chance to connect with
the Arts Council members and with the public as well. "I’ll handle press
releases, social media and the online newsletter, as well as being the
face of the organization," he said.

"I feel like I have no problem being a visible advocate
for the arts in Lansing — in fact, I love it. I really, really believe
in the arts and the arts community, and I think my history speaks to
that."

Badgero founded the current incarnation of Peppermint
Creek Theatre in 2002 — and earlier version had lasted from 1995 to 2000
— and he’s also the organizer of the annual Renegade Theatre Festival.
His recent directorial work included Peppermint Creek’s "The Pride" and
"Caroline, or Change," as well as the Lansing Community College staging
of "Pentecost."

"Chad’s position will not only support the growth of our
organization, but also support the growth of the creative community as a
whole," Donaldson said.
