Monday, April 11 — The Lansing City Council is scheduled to hold a public hearing tonight on amendments to the city’s medical marijuana moratorium.

The revised draft of the moratorium ordinance lists 40 addresses grandfathered in, or dispensaries that were open before the moratorium took effect Dec. 6. The original list includes 67 addresses.

However, City Pulse reported March 30 that the revised list does not include four businesses known to be operating at the time: S S Collectives at 1242 E. Grand River Ave.; Michigan Medical Marijuana Club at 6046 S. Cedar St., Relief Choices of Lansing at 2617 E. Michigan Ave.; and Grand River Alternative Medicine Services (GRAMS) at 711 E. Grand River Ave.

The Council is revising the ordinance because some business addresses were listed in residential zones, which doesn’t fall under the purview of the moratorium. Also, the city clerk’s office sent out mailings in February requesting more information about the businesses beyond a name and address. Those who didn’t respond were not included in the revised moratorium.

City Clerk Chris Swope has said that if businesses wish to be included in the revised ordinance, they need to prove that they were operating before the moratorium took effect Dec. 6 or respond to the questionnaire. The moratorium ends July 1.

At-Large Councilwoman Carol Wood said the Public Safety Committee, which she chairs, will review any changes after tonight’s public hearing and present an amended ordinance for the Council to vote on next Monday.

In other business, the Council is scheduled to pay tribute to six individuals who received awards at the 29th annual Founders’ Day Awards Ceremony, hosted by the National Association of Negro Business and Professional Women’s Clubs.

The Capital Area Transportation Authority is also scheduled to give a presentation tonight on the Michigan and Grand River avenues Transportation Study.
