MSU Museum holds annual wine tasting benefit

by Michael Brenton

Mark your calendars for the 16th annual wine tasting fund raiser benefitting the Michigan State University Museum. The event — which frequently sells out — will be held at the Kellogg Center March 25.

(And don’t worry March Madness fans, if MSU’s basketball team is playing in the Big Dance at that time, video monitors will be onsite.)

The benefit features the broadest and deepest selection of wines one is likely to encounter at any event. More than 20 tables feature up to 200 wines from more than 20 producers.

While there will be an abundance of “everyday drinkers,” there will also be more limited production super-premium and ultra-premium wines, and everything in between.

Tables featuring wines from the Toro, Rias Baixes and Priorato regions of Spain will encourage learning about these high quality but lesser known (in this country) wines. Similarly, attendees can sample estate wines from the best growing regions of Austria, a country with a long history of making excellent wine, but with little commercial penetration in the States.

Popular Michigan wineries including Fenn Valley and Bowers Harbor will have tables, as will Michigan breweries, Short’s and New Holland.

For those who find must-have juice, onsite ordering at special pricing will be available.

But this event is not just about wine. The culinary staff will provide an array of appetizers, and the silent auction table is sure to have an assortment of large format bottles and other enticing lots. Presentation of a ticket at Kellogg Center’s State Room guarantees a special dining discount before or after the event.
