How have you been impacted by the recession?
I live in Leslie and have been unemployed for about a year.
How was the transition from working to being unemployed?
The transition didn’t go real well. I do office-type, management work. I was really sick, and they let me go at the time. Other than that, I’m just trying to do the best I can at this point. I’m looking for work and plan on going back to school (to study) the medical field.
Have you seen any positive signs — statewide or nationwide — that we might be coming out of this economic slump?
Nope. I haven’t.
What is the most challenging part of being unemployed on a day-to-day basis?
Paying the bills. Bills that we have accrued in the past.
How has the economy impacted your family life?
I have a husband and two children — a son and a daughter — any my daughter has two kids. It’s been stressful — very, very stressful. Being financially low.
What do you make of the unemployment benefit extension?
When we are in the economy the way it is, I think they should extend it to the fullest.
What do you say to those who were critical of extending unemployment benefits?
People that are against it shouldn’t mention anything about it until they are there.
