In search of Kathleen Andel

The mother of a City Pulse contributor is missing; last seen in Fowlerville Dec. 9

Thursday, Dec. 16 — The search is still on for a 58-year-old Fraser woman who was last seen in Fowlerville on Dec. 9.

Two formal searches have been conducted, turning up no results, Fowlerville Police Chief Thomas Couling said.

Kathleen Andel, who is the mother of contributing City Pulse illustrator Justin Bilicki, parked her 1994 Pontiac Grand Am at Fowlerville Junior High School last Thursday afternoon. She is described as 5 feet 2 inches tall and 115 pounds with blonde (or strawberry blonde) hair and blue eyes. She was last seen wearing a black coat and light-colored pants.

School surveillance videos show Andel walking south on the school grounds for about five minutes before she left the cameras’ range.

Couling said two searches that covered between 50 and 60 acres on and around school grounds this week turned up no clues. Yesterday, 20 people were involved with the search, he added. Homeless shelters and nearby hospitals were also checked.

“Quite honestly, it’s just puzzling,” he said.

Fowlerville is roughly 65 miles west of Fraser, which is in northeast Metro Detroit, near St. Clair Shores.

Andel’s cell phone, purse, credit card and gloves were found in the car Saturday night. Couling said Andel’s family believes she has no familiarity with the Fowlerville area.

“Why she came here is a big question mark for everybody,” he said.

The Fraser Police Department took the initial missing person report from Andel’s boyfriend on Dec. 9. While on “normal patrol,” Fowlerville police discovered a car at the junior high parking lot Saturday night. Andel’s name came up after verifying the vehicle’s license plate, Couling said. '

Andel takes medication to treat mental illness, and she is believed to have last taken it Dec. 9, Couling said.

Anyone with information on Andel can contact the Fowlerville Police Department at (517) 223-8711 or the Livingston County Central Dispatch at (517) 546-9111.
