What Devo, KISS and Lansing have in common
Lansing music fans: Mark your calendars. A huge roster of area bands will be featured on two upcoming (nonprofit) tribute albums, one for KISS and one for Devo. The albums will be released at Oade’s Hidden Camel Dec. 3. The release show will also feature live performances by Re-Evolution (a Devo cover band) and Struttin’ Deuces (a KISS cover band), both in costume and made up of local musicians.
The cover albums, to be released by GTG Records, feature almost all Lansing bands and were recorded over the past year and a half. “Explosions: Lansing Salutes Devo” and “No More Tomorrow Baby: A Tribute to KISS” CDs will be given away for free at the show. The records feature performances from the Cartridge Family, The Plurals, The Hat Madder, Narc Out the Reds, Public Pubes, MK Ultra Culkin, Frank and Earnest, Blue Jello, Cavalcade and Stargrazer, just to name a few.

Pre-Turkey Day blow out
Wednesday is the biggest bar night of the year, and Uli’s Haus of Rock is celebrating with Thanksgivapocalypse, a live metal show featuring a cast of local hard rock bands. Set to make some noise are Deepfield, Purgatory Grove, Medicine Head and Hollow Drive.

Bandz set to battle
Uli’s keeps the house rocking on Friday with round one of Band of Bandz, a battle of the bands event. Set to perform are local rockers One Without Reason (10 p.m.), Animal Mother (11 p.m.) and Tumult (midnight).
Uli’s has been steadily booking live and loud shows, so be sure to keep up to date with its calendar of events.

Down with the clown
Psychopathic Records’ Anybody Killa, also known as ABK, will perform an early all-ages show Friday at Mac’s Bar.
ABK (real name James Lowery) has cultivated a cult following of “juggalos” since the Insane Clown Posse signed the solo rapper to its label in 2003. ABK, a Detroit native, often draws lyrical inspiration from his Native American heritage, calling his style “spiritual rap.” Juggalos can expect to hear tracks off ABK’s latest record, “Medicine Bag,” at the show.
Opening the show is AMB, AJAX, Smokehouse Junkiez, Mr. Yug and Pain.

Put on your boogie shoes
For those who enjoy dancing the night away, Mac’s Bar, along with Lansing Electronic Kollective (L.E.A.K), is now hosting Boogie Buffet, a new weekly electronic dance night every Thursday. The night will feature live DJs spinning the latest house tracks.
This week features performances from DJ Rob Perry, G.K. and Noah Deep. Also keep in mind that every Tuesday at Mac’s Bar is Neon Tuesday, another weekly electronic dance night.

Dark side of the rock venues
Blackened Moon Concert Hall is Lansing’s latest edition to its list of live rock venues. This Saturday, 10 head-banging bands will thrash the stage for over eight hours, starting at 3 p.m. Metal bands set to slay are Genocya, Iconicide (old-school New York hardcore), the Devestator, Dozic, Hillside Barrier, Serpent Crown, Fisherking, Seraphim’s Burial, Flood the Desert and Trauma Monkey.
Music aside, Blackened Moon is also an underground music store with thousands of rock CDs, shirts, patches and more.

Arachnophobia and the boogie woogie flu
Detroit rockers the Twistin Tarantulas are set to perform at Leroy’s Classic Bar and Grill Holiday Party on Saturday, November 27. Since the band formed in 1993, it has perfected its hard-edged American roots rock sound, while touring the U.S. and getting played on MTV. While the band plays mostly originals, people can also expect to hear dynamic covers of Tom Waits, The Misfits, Bauhaus, Motörhead, Tom Jones, Ramones and KISS.
