'Cheatin','April' among this week's theater openings

“Cheatin’” (Lansing Civic Players) — Wagging tongues and other wagging body parts stir up big trouble in a tiny Texas town where infidelity is inescapable. Leo Sell, Paul Levandowski, Bob Purosky, Kat Cooper, Sandy Vanlacker, Tim Cody and Tippy Canal star in a farce written by Del Shores; Tony Sump directs. 8 p.m. March 19, 20, 26 and 27 and 2 p.m. March 21 and 28. $10 general admission. 2300 E. “Enchanted April” (Riverwalk Theatre) — Four women (Emily Aslakson, Veronica Garcia-Wing, Abby Murphy and Sandy Thomasson) try to forget their troubles by renting an Italian villa in the spring of 1922. “In the Blood” (Michigan State University Auditorium Arena Theatre) — Playwright Suzan-Lori Parks puts a contemporary spin on “The Scarlet Letter,” as single mom Hester (Piaget Ventus) encounters hostility and humiliation while looking for help. (Parks will speak at Pasant Theatre at 7:30 p.m. April 5; tickets are $22.50.) Steffi Hill, Chartavia Mushatt, Mildred Jones-Hamm, Mariette Strauss, Sebastian Gerstner, Matt Kaufmann, David Clauson, Curran Jacobs, Eric Eilersen and Dennis Corsi star.
