What’s 18- to 20-feet tall, made out of polished stainless steel and the perfect commemoration of Lansing’s sesquicentennial?
If you have the answer, Michael G. Harrison would like to hear from you.
Through Feb. 15, Harrison will be collecting proposals for an outdoor sculpture to be erected as a reminder of the 150th anniversary of Lansing’s incorporation as a city. Submissions will be reviewed by the members of the Lansing 150 Sculpture Committee and forwarded to the city for final approval.
The final site of the sculpture has yet to be determined; Harrison said the committee would like to see it somewhere along the river, but “clearly we recognize that decision has to be made by the city.” Because of that, Harrison says sculptors should give some thought to possibly adding a base to their work, depending on the location where it will be constructed.
The guidelines have been sent out to sculptors in Michigan, throughout the U.S. and around the world, Harrison added. The winning sculpture will be financed through donations; “all of the money will be private,” Harrison said.
To be considered, you can either mail your proposal to Michael G. Harrison, Foster, Swift, Collins & Smith PC, 313 South Washington Square, Lansing MI 48933-2193, or email it to mharrison@ fosterswift.com.
