Final feast Portable
Feast in Old Town will close its doors for the final time on Friday,
Nov. 13, concluding a run of more than seven years of feeding the city.
Portable Feast found a niche in serving food to people on the go who
didn’t want a greasy burger from a drive-thru window, with some of
their most popular items being mushroom brie soup, barbecue pulled pork
and its deserts.

“All the stuff was fresh — paninis, wraps, salads,” said owner Sharon Hind said. “Nothing fried. People seemed to enjoy it.”

Hind
said taking Portable Feast’s place will be a café-style eatery with an
emphasis on baked goods. The decision to close and sell the business
was a personal one, Hind said. “It was my choice. I’m sick of cold
weather, and I’m going south.”

When
asked if people tried to convince her to stay, she said with a laugh,
“It wouldn’t have done any good.” 1216 Turner St., Lansing. (517)

chefs from across the state will show off their cooking kills and share
their secrets next week at the “Taste of Michigan” event hosted by the
MSU Kellogg Center’s Visiting Chef’s Series. Dinner by the visiting
culinary masters on Nov. 19 is already sold out, but there is still
limited space available for events on Nov. 18, which includes a
demonstration-lecture on how to prepare a multiple course meal,
featuring samples of each course paired with wine. The demonstration is
at 7 p.m. Nov. 18 in Big Ten Rooms B and C. $60. For reservations and
