Lansing Housing Commission hires new director

Patricia Baines-Lake is deputy director of Detroit Housing Commission, will officially start Sept. 28

by Neal McNamara
The Lansing Housing Commission has hired Detroit Housing Commission Deputy Director Patricia Baines-Lake as executive director, replacing Chris Stuchell, who resigned in May after 21 years.

Baines-Lake will officially begin working Sept. 28. Her hiring was announced at Tuesday night’s meeting of the commission’s board of directors.

Baines-Lake has been the deputy director in Detroit for five years. She served as director of asset management at the Michigan State Housing Development Authority for 30 years. She said that she sought the job in Lansing because she has been a resident of the area for over 40 years and it gives her the “opportunity to work in the field that I’ve spent my entire professional career.”

During Tuesday’s meeting, Baines-Lake announced that her No. 1 priority would be customer service. LHC board President Vince Villegas said that Baines-Lake’s top priority would be to find a new office for the LHC. The agency’s office is located in the first floor of Oliver Towers, a former low-income high rise building for senior citizens in downtown Lansing that has been closed since it was damaged by a fire in 2000.
